A Year in East Palestine: A Photography Exhibit by Rebecca Kiger
From March 26, 2024 to April 30, 2024, East Palestine Memorial Public Library 309 N. Market Street, East Palestine, Ohio, will host a photography exhibit showcasing the TIME special report on the East Palestine train derailment. A unique community event marking the beginning of the exhibit will be held on Tuesday, March 26 at 6:00 PM. This event offers an opportunity for community members to provide feedback on a diverse collection of unpublished photos captured by photojournalist Rebecca Kiger over the past year. Additionally, attendees will have the chance to engage in a panel discussion featuring the representatives from TIME Magazine and community members who were featured in the report. Following a panel discussion, a reception will take place. Please note space is limited, and participants are asked to call the library at 330-426-3778 to register to attend.
The photo exhibit will include vignettes of various themed photographs including railroad safety, health, gardening, Beyond Plastics, the EPA, and the East Palestine Fire Department. A special box of photographs will also be available as well as a special rotary phone for visitors to record feedback about the photographs and to record their unique story.
A program for children ages 8 and older, Photojournalism 101, will be offered on Monday, March 25 at 4:00 PM with photojournalist Rebecca Kiger, TIME Magazine photo editor, Kara Milstein, and Alice Gabriner, Consulting Director for the Center for Contemporary Documentation. This event will include hands-on activities for the participants and a special exhibit in the children’s area of the library.
