East Palestine Memorial Public Library will celebrate Teen Read Week from Monday, October 9 to Saturday, October 14, 2017. Teens who borrow books from the Young Adult Section of the library or complete a Library Scavenger Hunt during this week will earn a chance to win a prize.
The library encourages you to read 1000 books to your child before they enter Kindergarten. The simple and enjoyable act of sharing books helps your child learn pre-reading skills such as the sounds letters make, developing a bigger vocabulary, and building background knowledge--all important skills that help prepare your child for learning to read and entering Kindergarten.
Our library has been selected once again to participate in the State Library’s Guiding Ohio Online program which targets populations in rural Ohio and helps Ohioans develop skills needed to fully participate in the digital age. A trainer will be hired to assist our library with computer instruction, technology-focused community outreach, hands-on help, and other technology-related duties. Previously an AmeriCorps program, Guiding Ohio Online is now supported with LSTA (Library Services and Technology Act) funds.
A community-wide reading camp for children entering Kindergarten to 5th grade will be held at the East Palestine Park Community Center from Monday, July 17 to Friday, July 21 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
The Joanie Abdu Mammovan from Mercy Health will be returning to the library on Monday, July 3, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. You do not need a doctor's script, although one is preferred and, if you have health insurance, you should check to make sure that Mercy Health is an in-network provider. Those without health insurance may be eligible for the Joanie's Promise Fund.
People of all ages are invited to participate in the 2017 Reading Program titled, "Build a Better World," and can register to participate in the program at the library. The program continues until Wednesday, August 2.
